Biological Activity

Description Chlortetracycline HCl (NSC 13252, 7-Chlorotetracycline, Aureomycin monohydrochloride) is the first identified tetracycline antibiotic.
In vitro

Chlortetracycline HCl obtained from Streptomyces aureofaciens, is a broad-spectrum antibacterial agent with activity against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including obligate anaerobes. Chlortetracycline HCl binds strongly to a single site on the 30S subunit. Chlortetracycline HCl inhibits bacterial growth primarily by inhibiting protein synthesis at the level of the ribosome. [1] Chlortetracycline HCl is activity against Streptococcus pyogelles, Diplococcus pneuliloniap, Bacillus subtilis, Streptococcus faecalis, Bacillus subtilis, Mycobacterium ranae with MIC of 0.292, 0.098, 0.195, 0.3, 0.15, 0.3 mg/L. [2]
