Cyclocytidine HCl (Ancitabine) is the prodrug of cytarabine, which is structurally similar to human deoxycytidine to be incorporated into human DNA and then kills the cell. Cyclocytidine most affects rapidly dividing cells, which require DNA replication for mitosis. Cyclocytidine also inhibits both DNA and RNA polymerases and nucleotide reductase enzymes needed for DNA synthesis.
