Biological Activity

Description 2,3-Dihydroxybenzoic acid (Pyrocatechuic acid, 3-Hydroxysalicylic acid, Hypogallic acid) is a natural phenol found in Phyllanthus acidus and in the aquatic fern Salvinia molesta, also a product of human aspirin metabolism. It is a potentially useful iron-chelating drug and has antimicrobial properties.
In Vivo
In vivo 2,3-dihydroxyhenzoic acid (2,3-DHB) is an orally effective iron-chelating agent in hypertransfused rat. The iron excreted in response tc 2,3-DHB is excreted via the urine. The oral administration of 2,3-DHB decreases time absorption of iron (59FeCl3) by the gut. The LD5O of 2,3-DHB is greater than 3 g/kg in the rabbit. Rats and mice administered up to 600 mg/kg chronically have shown no signs of toxicity[1].
Animal Research Animal Models iron-overloaded rat (Sprague-Dawley rats)
Dosages 100 mg/kg
Administration orally

Method for preparing DMSO master liquid: mg drug pre-dissolved in μL DMSO ( Master liquid concentration mg/mL, Please contact us first if the concentration exceeds the DMSO solubility of the batch of drug. )

Method for preparing in vivo formulation: Take μL DMSO master liquid, next addμL PEG300, mix and clarify, next addμL Tween 80, mix and clarify, next add μL ddH2O, mix and clarify.

Method for preparing in vivo formulation: Take μL DMSO master liquid, next add μL Corn oil, mix and clarify.

Note: 1. Please make sure the liquid is clear before adding the next solvent.
2. Be sure to add the solvent(s) in order. You must ensure that the solution obtained, in the previous addition, is a clear solution before proceeding to add the next solvent. Physical methods such
as vortex, ultrasound or hot water bath can be used to aid dissolving.
