Procyanidin C1 induces DNA damage, cell cycle arrest and enhanced the expression of checkpoint kinases. This compound decreases the level of Bcl-2 but increases the BAX, caspase 3 and 9 expression in cancer cells. |

In rodent models, Procyanidin C1 depletes senescent cells in a treatment-damaged tumour microenvironment and enhances therapeutic efficacy when co-administered with chemotherapy. Intermittent administration of this compound to either irradiated, senescent cell-implanted or naturally aged old mice alleviates physical dysfunction and prolongs survival. |
