Description Zoxazolamine (NSC 24995, Contrazole) is a centrally acting myorelaxant, which is formerly used as an antispasmodic and uricosuric.
In vitro
In vitro Zoxazolamine is in the centrally-acting muscle relaxant class of drugs, which reportedly act by decreasing CNS interneuronal activity. These drugs, but not anxiolytics, decrease dopaminergic turnover and induce a pacemaker-like discharge pattern in dopaminergic neurons.[1] Zoxazolamine is a member of the large class of biologically active 2-amino-2-oxazoles. Zoxazolamine is also used as a tool for assessing hepatic cytochrome P-450 activity.[2]
