Solanesol (Nonaisoprenol) is widely used as an intermediate for the synthesis of ubiquinone drugs, such as coenzyme Q10 and vitamin K2 as well as Vitamin K and Vitamin E. It is known to possess activities like antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, and anti-ulcer activities. This compound binds at ATP binding site and inhibit the phosphorylation of Focal Adhesion Kinase (FAK). It upregulates HO-1 and Hsp70 expression in L02 cells which activate Nrf2 and HSF1. It induces Nrf2 by enhancement of Keap1 interaction with Hsp90. Solanesol-activated HSF1 is involved in chaperones interaction. It also inhibits LDH, AST, MDA and ROS level, but increases the GSH level and promotes tBHQ-mediated protective effects.
