Mechanism of Action

In vitro

Isosorbide increases urine volume by increasing the amount of osmotically active solute in the urine. This compound also increases the osmolarity of plasma. It is used to prevent or treat chest pain (angina). It works by relaxing the blood vessels to the heart, so the blood and oxygen supply to the heart is increased. [1]
