Biological Activity

Progesterone is an endogenous steroid hormone that acts as a potent agonist of the nuclear progesterone receptor (nPR, Kd 1 nM), an agonist of membrane progesterone receptors (mPRs), and an antagonist of the sigma-1 receptor. Ligand binding modulates downstream gene transcription and rapid non-genomic signaling pathways, promoting cellular differentiation and supporting key reproductive processes including menstrual cycle regulation, embryogenesis, and pregnancy maintenance. FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
