Biological Activity

Polymyxin B sulphate is a cationic peptide antibiotic that targets lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria. By binding to lipid A of LPS, Polymyxin B alters outer membrane permeability and disrupts cellular envelope structure. This disruption induces osmotic swelling, increased membrane permeability, and subsequent leakage of intracellular contents, ultimately leading to bacterial cell death.
