Tauroursodeoxycholic acid (TUDCA) is an endogenous bile acid derivative that functions as a mitochondrial stabilizer, chemical chaperone, and anti-apoptotic agent. It inhibits mitochondrial membrane depolarization and cytochrome c release, suppressing caspase activation and downstream apoptotic pathways. Additionally, TUDCA attenuates endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress by suppressing unfolded protein response signaling, thereby maintaining cellular homeostasis in various disease models. [1][2]
