Biological Activity

Sulforaphane is a naturally occurring isothiocyanate that acts as a potent inducer of Nrf2 and an inhibitor of histone deacetylase (HDAC) and NF-κB. Activation of the Nrf2 pathway increases heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) expression and reduces cellular levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Furthermore, sulforaphane modulates downstream signaling to induce cell cycle arrest and promote apoptosis in target cells. [1][2]

Solvent Solubility & Note
FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
