Biological Activity

Norepinephrine tartrate is a sympathomimetic amine and potent agonist of adrenergic receptors, specifically targeting α1, α2, and β1 adrenoceptors. Activation of α1 receptors stimulates phospholipase C via Gq proteins to induce smooth muscle contraction, while α2 receptor signaling suppresses adenylyl cyclase via Gi proteins to lower cAMP levels. Furthermore, β1 receptor stimulation activates the Gs-adenylyl cyclase-cAMP-protein kinase A cascade to increase cardiac contractility. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
