Heparin CAS Number

Heparin is a highly sulfated glycosaminoglycan and potent anticoagulant that acts by binding antithrombin to accelerate the inactivation of coagulation enzymes, primarily thrombin (factor IIa) and factor Xa (FXa). This interaction induces a conformational change in antithrombin, suppressing the coagulation cascade and preventing fibrin clot formation. Heparin also modulates growth factor signaling, inflammation, and angiogenesis, contributing to cellular proliferation and tissue remodeling pathways. ^[1][2]
