Mechanism and Biochemical Profile

Ganciclovir is phosphorylated by viral kinases into its active triphosphate metabolite, which selectively binds viral DNA polymerase and incorporates into viral DNA to induce chain termination and inhibit viral DNA synthesis. By suppressing viral genomic replication and cellular viral load, this compound effectively mitigates viral disease progression in patients undergoing treatment for cytomegalovirus infections, organ transplant-associated viral complications, and related viral lymphoproliferative disorders.
