Biological Activity

Alogliptin is a potent and selective dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPP-4) inhibitor, exhibiting greater than 10,000-fold selectivity over related serine proteases DPP-8 and DPP-9. Inhibition of DPP-4 blocks the cleavage and inactivation of incretin hormones, including glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). This activity preserves active incretin levels to enhance glucose-dependent insulin secretion and improve glycemic control in cellular and preclinical models. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
