Biological Activity

Olanzapine is an atypical antipsychotic agent that acts as an antagonist at 5-HT2 serotonin receptors and D2 dopamine receptors, exhibiting higher affinity for 5-HT2 receptors over D2 receptors. It also displays binding affinity toward histamine H1, muscarinic cholinergic, and alpha-adrenergic receptors, as well as weak interactions with GABAA receptors. Blockade of these receptors modulates central serotonergic and dopaminergic signaling pathways, regulating neurochemical responses and sedative phenotypes. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
