5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) is a naturally occurring amino acid metabolite and chemical precursor intermediate in the biosynthesis of serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT). In central nervous system tissues, 5-HTP readily crosses the blood-brain barrier and undergoes decarboxylation by aromatic-L-amino-acid decarboxylase (AADC) in the presence of vitamin B6. This enzymatic conversion elevates endogenous serotonin levels, subsequently modulating serotonergic signaling pathways and influencing central physiological functions including mood regulation and neurological behavior. - Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
