Voglibose is an N-substituted derivative of valiolamine that acts as a potent competitive inhibitor of intestinal α-glucosidases, including maltase and sucrase. By delaying the digestion and absorption of dietary carbohydrates in the small intestine, it suppresses postprandial glucose spikes and reduces glycemic fluctuations. Consequently, voglibose attenuates hyperglycemia-induced oxidative stress and downstream vascular complications without stimulating insulin secretion.
