Vitamin K1 (phylloquinone) is a dietary, fat-soluble vitamin that serves as an essential cofactor for gamma-glutamyl carboxylase (GGCX). Reduced vitamin K1 enables the post-translational gamma-carboxylation of glutamate residues in vitamin K-dependent proteins, such as blood coagulation factors II, VII, IX, and X, as well as proteins C and S. This enzymatic conversion mediates calcium binding and phospholipid interactions necessary for proper blood clotting and vascular homeostasis. [1][2]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
