Verdiperstat (AZD3241) is an orally active, selective, and irreversible inhibitor of myeloperoxidase (MPO). By suppressing MPO enzyme activity, verdiperstat reduces the accumulation of cytotoxic reactive oxygen species and hypochlorous acid, thereby attenuating neuroinflammation and microglial activation. These downstream cellular mechanisms inhibit oxidative stress-mediated neuronal injury and support its therapeutic potential in neurodegenerative brain disorders.
