Urapidil is an antihypertensive small molecule that acts as a selective α1-adrenoreceptor antagonist and a 5-HT1A receptor agonist. By blocking peripheral α1-adrenoceptors, it inhibits vasoconstriction to reduce peripheral vascular resistance. Simultaneously, activation of central 5-HT1A receptors decreases sympathetic outflow from the medullary cardiovascular centers. Together, these complementary mechanisms suppress sympathetic tone, promote vasodilation, and effectively lower blood pressure without inducing reflex tachycardia. [1]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
