Biological Activity

Tryptamine is an endogenous monoamine alkaloid that functions as an agonist of human trace amine-associated receptor 1 (hTAAR1) and acts as a non-selective serotonin receptor agonist. By stimulating hTAAR1 and serotonin receptors, tryptamine modulates G-protein-coupled receptor signaling pathways, influencing neurotransmitter release and neuronal excitability. It also functions as a serotonin-norepinephrine-dopamine releasing agent, regulating monoaminergic signaling in the central nervous system. [1][2]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
