Thymol (2-isopropyl-5-methylphenol) is a naturally occurring monocyclic phenolic compound derived from Thymus vulgaris with demonstrated anti-inflammatory properties both in vitro and in vivo. It regulates inflammatory responses through the suppression of NF-kB signaling, which reduces the production of pro-inflammatory mediators including TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6. Consequently, thymol attenuates leukocyte migration, oxidative damage, and tissue injury in diverse preclinical inflammation models.

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
