Biological Activity

Tariquidar (XR9576) is a potent and selective noncompetitive inhibitor of P-glycoprotein with a Kd ofin CHrB30 cell membranes. By blocking ATP-binding cassette transporter subfamily B member 1 (ABCB1/P-gp)-mediated drug efflux, tariquidar restores intracellular accumulation of chemotherapeutic agents and reverses multidrug resistance across various drug-resistant tumor cell lines, enhancing sensitivity to cytotoxic agents such as doxorubicin, paclitaxel, and vinblastine. Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
