Sulfathiazole is a short-acting sulfonamide antimicrobial agent that targets bacterial dihydropteroate synthase (DHPS). By competitively inhibiting DHPS, it blocks the condensation of 6-hydroxymethyl-7,8-dihydropterin pyrophosphate with p-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) within the bacterial folate biosynthesis pathway. This inhibition disrupts downstream tetrahydrofolate production, essential for purine and pyrimidine nucleotide synthesis, ultimately inhibiting bacterial cell growth and proliferation. [1]

- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
Pre-aliquoted for Longevity: Solid-state aliquots offer significantly longer shelf life compared to stock solutions, ensuring maximum stability for every use.
