Solasodine is a plant-derived alkaloid that modulates extracellular matrix degradation and oncogenic signaling pathways. It decreases the expression of matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2), MMP-9, and extracellular matrix metalloproteinase inducer (EMMPRIN), while upregulating reversion-inducing cysteine-rich protein with kazal motifs (RECK). Additionally, solasodine suppresses oncogenic microRNA-21 (miR-21) expression and attenuates the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway, leading to reduced cellular invasion and migration potential. [1][2]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
