Sodium bicarbonate is a biochemical reagent and systemic alkalizing agent that functions as an extracellular pH buffer. By neutralizing extracellular microenvironmental acidity without altering intracellular pH, it disrupts acid-mediated tissue remodeling and suppresses cell invasion pathways. Systemic administration of sodium bicarbonate elevates tumor extracellular pH and reduces the formation of spontaneous metastases in preclinical cancer models. [1]
