Biological Activity
Secoisolariciresinol diglucoside (SDG) is a plant lignan isolated from flaxseed with potent antioxidant and cardioprotective properties. It acts as an effective scavenger of reactive oxygen species, particularly hydroxyl radicals, reducing oxidative stress in cellular environments. By attenuating lipid peroxidation and lowering circulating levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, SDG suppresses vascular damage and exerts protective cardiovascular activity. [1][2]
