SB 200646 is an orally active 5-HT2B/2C receptor antagonist that selectively inhibits the rat 5-HT2B receptor (pKi 7.5), rat 5-HT2C receptor (pKi 6.9), and rat 5-HT2A receptor (pKi 5.2) with 50-fold selectivity for 5-HT2B/2C over 5-HT2A. By inhibiting 5-HT2B/2C receptor-mediated signaling, SB 200646 modulates neuronal electrophysiological responses and exhibits anxiolytic activity in vivo. [1]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
