Biological Activity

Salvianolic acid C is a polyphenolic natural product that acts as a non-competitive inhibitor of cytochrome P450 2C8 (CYP2C8) and a moderate mixed inhibitor of cytochrome P450 2J2 (CYP2J2). Inhibition of CYP2C8 and CYP2J2 modulates xenobiotic metabolism and arachidonic acid biotransformation pathways. These enzymatic perturbations alter cellular drug clearance mechanisms and regulate vascular signaling and lipid mediator phenotypes. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
