Biological Activity

RRx-001 is a novel epigenetic modulator and radiosensitizer that inhibits glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) in tumor cells. It mediates redox stress under hypoxic conditions by driving red blood cell-dependent oxidative reactions and generating reactive oxygen species. Downstream, RRx-001 downregulates DNA methyltransferases and histone deacetylases, triggers p53 activation, suppresses c-Myc expression, and represses the CD47-SIRPα checkpoint pathway to induce apoptosis and inhibit tumor growth.

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
