Biological Activity

RITA (NSC 652287) is a small-molecule p53 activator that directly binds to p53 and inhibits the p53-MDM2 interaction. By blocking p53 ubiquitination and degradation, RITA induces cellular p53 accumulation and activates p53-mediated transcriptional pathways. These biochemical effects lead to robust cell cycle arrest and p53-dependent apoptosis in tumor cell lines, suppressing tumor growth both in vitro and in vivo. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
