Biological Activity

QX-314 chloride is a membrane-impermeant sodium channel inhibitor that permeates and activates human TRPV1 and TRPA1 channels. Entry of QX-314 into cells through open TRP channels enables selective blockade of intracellular sites on voltage-gated sodium channels. This inhibition abolishes sodium ion influx, suppressing action potential generation and downstream nociceptive signaling in sensory neurons. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
