Biological Activity

Quetiapine (ICI 204,636) is an atypical antipsychotic that acts as an antagonist at dopamine D2 receptors and serotonin 5-HT2A receptors, while also displaying binding affinity for 5-HT1A, 5-HT2C, and histamine H1 receptors. By modulating dopaminergic and serotonergic signaling pathways, quetiapine regulates neurotransmission within the central nervous system, suppressing hyperdopaminergic activity and modulating downstream cell signaling to elicit behavioral phenotypes.

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
