Protoporphyrin IX Zinc is a potent, orally active, and competitive heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) inhibitor. By suppressing HO-1 catalytic activity, it prevents the enzymatic degradation of heme into biliverdin, carbon monoxide, and free iron. This inhibition attenuates cellular antioxidant defense mechanisms, modulates oxidative stress pathways, and sensitizes cells to reactive oxygen species, thereby significantly reducing cytoprotective responses under oxidative stress conditions. - Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
Pre-aliquoted for Longevity: Solid-state aliquots offer significantly longer shelf life compared to stock solutions, ensuring maximum stability for every use.
