PMSF (Phenylmethylsulfonyl Fluoride) is an irreversible serine protease inhibitor that targets hydrolases, including chymotrypsin and acetylcholinesterase. By covalently modifying active-site serine residues, PMSF blocks the enzymatic degradation of anandamide, an endogenous cannabinoid receptor agonist. This inhibition alters anandamide metabolism, potentiates cannabinoid receptor signaling, and suppresses downstream lipid catabolism, rendering PMSF a versatile tool for biochemical enzyme inhibition and cell signaling research. - Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
Pre-aliquoted for Longevity: Solid-state aliquots offer significantly longer shelf life compared to stock solutions, ensuring maximum stability for every use.
