Piperazine Erastin is a synthetic erastin analog and small-molecule ferroptosis inducer that acts by targeting system xc- (cystine/glutamate antiporter). Inhibition of system xc- blocks cellular cystine import and depletes intracellular glutathione pools. This disruption impairs glutathione peroxidase activity and drives the lethal accumulation of lipid reactive oxygen species, ultimately executing iron-dependent ferroptotic cell death and suppressing tumor cell growth.
