Biological Activity

Perhexiline maleate is a carnitine palmitoyltransferase inhibitor that targets rat heart CPT1 (IC50 77 μM), rat liver CPT1 (IC50 148 μM), and CPT2. By blocking CPT1 activity, perhexiline inhibits mitochondrial fatty acid oxidation and shifts cellular energy production toward glucose utilization. This metabolic reprogramming alters cellular respiration and downstream nutrient-sensing pathways, suppressing mitochondrial ATP generation and inducing cytotoxicity in target cell lines. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
