Biological Activity

Pargyline hydrochloride is an irreversible inhibitor of monoamine oxidase A (MAO-A), monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B), and lysine-specific demethylase 1 (LSD1). By targeting LSD1, pargyline blocks histone demethylation, leading to alterations in chromatin structure and repression of androgen receptor-dependent gene transcription. This pathway modulation suppresses gene expression and affects downstream cellular phenotypes related to chromatin organization. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
