Otilonium bromide is a potent antimuscarinic agent and spasmolytic compound that targets muscarinic acetylcholine receptors and L-type calcium channels. By inhibiting muscarinic receptor activation and blocking L-type calcium influx in smooth muscle cells, it suppresses calcium-dependent contractile signaling pathways. This inhibition reduces intestinal smooth muscle hypermotility and spasm, leading to muscle relaxation and suppression of visceral hypersensitivity response pathways.
