Osimertinib mesylate (AZD9291) is an oral, third-generation, irreversible epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitor that selectively targets sensitizing EGFR mutations and the EGFR T790M resistance mutation over wild-type EGFR. It potently suppresses downstream EGFR signaling through the AKT and MAPK pathways, leading to inhibition of cell proliferation and induction of apoptosis in EGFR-mutant non-small cell lung cancer models.
