Ondansetron is a selective serotonin 5-HT3 receptor antagonist. It blocks serotonin signaling mediated by 5-HT3 receptors on peripheral vagal nerve terminals and within the central nervous system chemoreceptor trigger zone. By antagonizing ligand-gated ion channel activation, ondansetron inhibits vagal afferent pathway excitation and downstream activation of the emetic reflex pathway, reducing nausea and vomiting responses without affecting dopamine or muscarinic receptors. - Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
