Biological Activity

N-Succinimidyl-S-acetylthioacetate (SATA) is an amine-reactive protein modification reagent that introduces protected sulfhydryl groups into primary amine-containing molecules. SATA reacts with lysine residues to form stable amide bonds, yielding acetylated thiol groups that are subsequently deprotected with hydroxylamine to generate free sulfhydryl groups. This modification enables site-specific bioconjugation and crosslinking with thiol-reactive targets, facilitating downstream applications in protein conjugation and assay development.

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
