Moclobemide (Ro 111163) is a potent, reversible inhibitor of monoamine oxidase A (MAO-A). By selectively targeting MAO-A, it prevents the oxidative deamination of monoamine neurotransmitters, leading to increased extracellular concentrations of serotonin (5-HT), norepinephrine, and dopamine in brain tissue. This inhibition modulates central nervous system monoaminergic neurotransmission and downstream neuronal signaling, resulting in enhanced neurochemical signaling and neuroprotective phenotypes.
