Meldonium is an inhibitor of gamma-butyrobetaine hydroxylase and renal carnitine reabsorption, suppressing the biosynthesis and accumulation of L-carnitine. By lowering intracellular carnitine levels, meldonium shifts cellular energy metabolism from fatty acid beta-oxidation to glucose oxidation under hypoxic conditions. This metabolic modulation prevents the accumulation of toxic intermediate metabolites and attenuates ischemic injury in cardiovascular tissues. [1]

- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
