Biological Activity

Meglumine is an amino sugar derived from sorbitol that exhibits antiproliferative activity against THP-1 human acute monocytic leukemia cells. As an organic base and sugar alcohol derivative, it modulates cellular viability and osmotic balance in monocytic cell lines. Treatment with meglumine impairs leukemic cell growth and reduces THP-1 monocytic cell survival, serving as a functional small molecule for studying cellular responses and metabolic processing in monocytic leukemia models. FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
