Meclizine 2HCl is a histamine H1 receptor antagonist, human pregnane X receptor (hPXR) agonist, mouse constitutive androstane receptor (mCAR) agonist, and human CAR (hCAR) inverse agonist. It depresses labyrinth excitability and vestibular stimulation while increasing hPXR target gene expression. Furthermore, meclizine inhibits mitochondrial respiration and oxidative phosphorylation, thereby altering cellular energy metabolism and protecting against ischemic injury. [1][2]
