Maraviroc is a selective CCR5 antagonist that potently prevents chemokine binding and HIV-1 entry. It inhibits the interaction of CCR5 with its endogenous chemokine ligands, including MIP-1α, MIP-1β, and RANTES. By blocking CCR5 co-receptor function, maraviroc disrupts viral envelope glycoprotein interactions, preventing membrane fusion and suppressing R5-tropic HIV-1 infection and replication. [1]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
