Biological Activity

Levobupivacaine is a long-acting amide local anesthetic that acts as an inhibitor of voltage-gated sodium channels. By blocking sodium ion influx across the neuronal cell membrane, it prevents membrane depolarization and suppresses action potential propagation along sensory and motor nerve fibers. This targeted channel blockade interrupts peripheral nerve impulse conduction, leading to reversible loss of sensation and suppression of nociceptive signal transmission. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
