Biological Activity

Levobetaxolol HCl is a selective β-adrenergic receptor antagonist with high affinity for human β1-adrenergic receptor (Ki = 0.76 nM) and human β2-adrenergic receptor (Ki = 32.6 nM). By blocking β-adrenergic receptors, it inhibits G-protein-coupled receptor signaling pathways, reducing cyclic AMP production and intracellular calcium influx. This target blockade decreases aqueous humor secretion in ocular tissue and exhibits neuroprotective effects on retinal ganglion cells under ischemic stress.

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
